Last updated: January 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Ooh La Lit collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our website and services. By using our services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Without an Account
If you browse without signing up, we don't collect any personal data or use marketing cookies to track you. Our hosting provider (Vercel) may collect basic technical data like IP addresses in server logs for security purposes, but we don't use this to identify or profile you.
With an Account
When you create an account, we collect:
- Your email address (for login and essential communications)
- Your display name (shown publicly with your contributions)
- Your reading lists and saved books
- Your tag votes and contributions
- Your star ratings and spice ratings
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and improve the service (your reading lists, votes, ratings)
- Personalize your book recommendations based on your preferences
- Send essential emails (password resets, magic links, account notifications)
- Maintain security and prevent abuse
We do not sell your data to third parties, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose other than making Ooh La Lit work better for you.
3. Third-Party Services
We use a few trusted services to run Ooh La Lit. Here's what they do and what data they may process:
- Supabase — Handles authentication and stores your account data securely.
- Vercel — Hosts the website. They may collect basic server logs (IP addresses, request data) for security purposes.
- Resend — Sends transactional emails (password resets, magic links, book import notifications). They process your email address only for delivery.
- Upstash — May be used for rate limiting to prevent abuse. Processes IP addresses only, no personal data stored.
- Google Books — Provides book metadata (titles, authors, descriptions, covers). This is not user data—it's information about books.
4. Cookies & Tracking
We keep cookies to a minimum:
- Essential cookies only — If you're logged in, we use a session cookie to keep you authenticated. That's it.
- No third-party tracking — We don't use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other tracking scripts that follow you across the web.
- No advertising cookies — We don't serve ads or build profiles about you.
5. Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. If you delete your account:
- Your personal data (email, display name) is deleted
- Your reading lists and saved books are deleted
- Your tag votes may be anonymized and retained to maintain tag accuracy
You can request account deletion at any time by contacting us.
6. Security
We take reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections, and we rely on reputable infrastructure providers for hosting and storage. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If you believe you've found a security issue, please contact us at admin@oohlalit.com.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — See what data we have about you
- Correct — Update your information in your profile settings
- Delete — Request deletion of your account and data
- Export — Request a copy of your data (coming soon)
To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
9. Affiliate Disclosure
We may participate in affiliate programs, which means we may earn a small commission when you purchase books through links on our site. This helps support the platform at no extra cost to you.
When we use affiliate links, we'll disclose this clearly. Our recommendations are based on tags and community votes—not on what earns us the most.
